Help Publish the 2nd Edition of The Birthday Princess

Support a Story That Celebrates Black Girl Joy!

I come from a long line of strong Black women—my mother, my grandmothers, and a dozen aunts—who shaped me with their love, resilience, and unwavering support. To honor that legacy, I founded Parker Pearly Publishing, named after my paternal grandmother, who continues to be the linchpin of our family. Through this publishing company, I am committed to writing stories that uplift Black girls, showing them as strong, confident, and surrounded by love.

Now, I need your help to bring the 2nd edition of The Birthday Princess to life as an independent author and publisher.

Why a Second Edition?

When I first published The Birthday Princess, I worked with a hybrid publisher. But in order to maintain full creative control over my art and vision, I made the decision to transition to independent publishing through Parker Pearly Publishing. This shift allows me to own my work, make intentional creative decisions, and ensure the story remains accessible to the children and families who need it most.

However, in order to get the book back on the market, I need to fund a complete reprint—and that’s where your support comes in.

Why This Book Matters

The Birthday Princess is more than just a book about a birthday party—it’s about teaching little Black girls to celebrate themselves and prioritize their joy. It’s about the adults around them showing up, supporting them, and letting them be children.

This work is crucial because Black girls are often denied the right to simply be kids. Research shows:

  • Black girls as young as 5 are viewed as older, less innocent, and less in need of protection than their white peers—a phenomenon known as adultification bias.

  • Black girls face harsher school punishments and lower rates of comfort and support from educators compared to other children.

  • Studies confirm that early loss of innocence contributes to mental health struggles, lower self-esteem, and increased risk of discipline in schools.

Through The Birthday Princess and Parker Pearly Publishing, I aim to combat adultification bias by writing stories where Black girls are simply allowed to be joyful, carefree, and celebrated.
